This is just to explain why the classical music links in my “stuff” department direct users to ArkivMusic.com, whereas links to other items will direct you to Amazon.
Online stores like Amazon do have a lot of good classical inventory, plus plenty of good information to help find something you’ll like. But experienced classical music buyers are usually looking for a specific piece, and often a specific conductor or ensemble, or even a specific label. In these cases, the only way to find what you’re looking for is to page through search results. Page after page.
Try using Amazon’s search tool to find specific recording of the Sibelius 5th Symphony, and you’ll see what I mean.
ArkivMusic.com is designed with these specific searches in mind. There is no keyword search tool at all, in fact. You just drill down alphabetically by composer, performer, conductor or label to find exactly the recording you want very quickly.
No other online music store I’ve seen has demonstrated this understanding of how people buy classical music. Try it. You’ll like it.
Now, if the download services could only get their act together…..
