In “Routine”, we meet Chremes, the Director of the Department of the Solar Plexus. He’s very happily in charge of the solar plexus and neighboring bodily organs of a young man whose dull life makes his job very easy and uneventful. However, during the scene there are some hints to the effect that this might be about to change.
Chremes is surrounded onstage by dancing figures, referred to in the script as the “Synapsers”, busily representing the “works” within this body.
